“Sick and Tired of Being Sick and Tired”

Hello My Faithphilled Friends!!!

How've yall been? I hope your week is going well. Since it's the last week of "Black History Month", I thought I share my thoughts on one of my favorite Black activists, Fannie Lou Hamer. For those of you that don't know much about Mrs. Fannie Lou, she was a civil rights activist that was monumental in registering hundreds of Black Americans in the south to vote. Though she was unsuccessful, she even ran for congress in her home state of Mississippi. She turned heads in front of the nation when she spoke at the televised Democratic Convention. When she was asked why she kept pushing for equal rights and she matter-of-factly declared, "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired". This woman had been threaten, beaten, arrested and much more and even after ALL THAT, she said imma keep going because "I'M SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED".

That statement alone calls for a bit of introspection. It changes the lens at which I look at my own life and gauge my own level of "sick and tired". Often we have so many things we wish we could change in our lives. We want our finances to change, our job to be different, our kids to act better, our spouse to be more compassionate, we even want to see change in the way we handle our own sins, so why is it that we are sick and tired enough to complain yet we struggle to produce change? Well Fannie also said " You can pray until you faint, but unless you get up and try to do something God is not going to put it in your lap." The desire to change can be there all you want, however, until you decide to do something about it your circumstance will remain the same. You want to see a change in your finances? Start budgeting and apply for a higher paying job! You want to see a change in your childs behavior? Study them to understand their triggers, learn how they respond to discipline and then be consistent with them. Want your sins to change? Devote your time and efforts to God. Want a more compassionate spouse? Be more compassionate and empathetic to him. Change will come but its starts with you making it up in your mind first. Then you have to walk that thing out. We all know the word says "Faith without works is dead". We don't aquire new skills bc we wish to we have to practice and work at it every day. Baby steps are still steps. The most important thing is to make progress towards your goal. You will begin to see change! I told yall last week that I wanted to make a change in my prayer life, so I had to dedicate my time and efforts to God at a whole other level. It wasn't easy AT ALL, especially not in the beginning, it took time. I'm still not where I want to be, but I work at it each day and I can see the change. I don't let anything or anyone manipulate my focus. But when I do fall short, I get right back up and try again. Let's be clear, I am not a special case...you can do it too! Just believe in yourself and make your mind up that you are sick and tired of being sick and tired and no matter what obstacles come your way you WILL STAY THE COURSE!!! Now let me know in the comment section what change you want to make or a step you need to take!

Until Next Time My Faithphilled Friends!!!

Xoxo,

Amanda Christine
