20 Lessons From 2020
2020 What a year! I know many of you are glad it’s over but 2020 has blessed me in ways I could have never imagined. 2020 taught me so many lessons that I didn’t know I was in need of learning at 30 years old. I am excited for what 2021 will bring but I am thankful for all that 2020 brought, the good, the bad and the ugly! With that in mind, here are the 20 lessons that 2020 taught me that I’ll be sure to take into this new year!
Lesson 20. Slow Down!
Slow down. Enjoy life. Moving fast will make you miss the things that matter most.
Lesson 19. You can only change you!
It doesn’t matter who it is; your spouse, your child, your friend or your mother, nothing you do will make them change who they are. So change yourself and how you deal with them.
Lesson 18. Life is short. Forgive. Let Go. Move On.
2020 was filled with a lot of death and uncertainty. Lifes too short, forgive that person. Call them and say I love you, or call them just to say “Hey I was thinking about you.”
Lesson 17. I am Strongest at My Weakest
Sometimes our strength isn’t shown in our accomplishments but in our vulnerabilities, in our healing and ability to still have faith in our strong God when we are at our lowest, weakest moments.
Lesson 16. Set Boundaries with yourself
I’ve always set boundaries for others but this year I’ve truly learned to set boundaries and limitations for myself. Doing my best to remain committed to the things I need and minimize distractions.
Lesson 15. People will be Intimidated by My Anointing but that’s None of My Business
The anointing that God blessed me with is what attracts so many people to me. With positive attention of course there comes a lot of negative attention too. 2020 taught me to be okay with that. Be okay with how brightly you shine in a dark world. Be blessed that God made you fearfully and wonderfully. Those that are confused about their shine or fear the strength of their own light will try to dim yours. Don't be shaken by that, you were designed by the Divine. The intimidation is due to their own insecurity and there is nothing you can do about that so SHINE ON!
Lesson 14. Godliness is My standard
When Im too consumed with social media, I unknowingly put standards on myself that are not true to who I am. The only thing I’m trying to do with my life is to live a life that is pleasing to my Father.
Lesson 13. Appreciate stillness
At times it seemed like being in the house was a punishment. Nothing to do but watch my son, watch TV, eat and sleep. But after a minute I began to realize the need for a quarantine. A time to disconnect from everything and only be surrounded by what I truly need in life.
Lesson 12. Quality Time Over Quantity Time
The length of time you spend with someone doesn’t matter if you aren’t fully present with them during that time. Taking time to give your loved ones your undivided attention will foster healthy relationships and increase your communication skills which benefits those that matter most.
Lesson 11. Praise Through the Tough Times (P.U.S.H.)
2020 dished up some vicious curveballs for us all. Instead of being focused on the damage, we must learn to seek God no matter what. P.U.S.H. ie Pray Until Something Happens. When we focus on praying, praising and prophesying our way through, it helps to keep us sane and grounded no matter what comes our way.
Lesson 10. Separation and Isolation from Worldly Things Bring us Closer to God
When we are separated from the distractions or isolated in our own solitude God can draw closer to us and get our undivided attention. In that time he will give clear instructions, reveal our purpose and He can give us revelation about our journey. But he can’t do that if we are so focused on ourselves and our possessions.
Lesson 9. Consistency is crucial
Some people aren't willing to make the sacrifice because they don't want to be uncomfortable but your success is in your discomfort so don't be afraid to embrace it!
Lesson 8. Do it Yourself
Sometimes we get stuck while waiting for others to help us out. Sis, don’t do it. Buy that tripod and clicker, watch that hair Youtube video, learn how to build that website. Watch/Read, Learn then Do.
Lesson 7. New Dimensions of My Faith
The more I grow in Christ the more I learn that there are many facets and dimensions to my faith. Just because it carried me when I loss my car does that mean it can carry me through the loss of a job? We know we have the victory but we must continue to groom and grow our faith in order to see its true strength.
Lesson 6. Create Morning Me time
For the first time, I created a consistent morning routine. I was up early before anyone else in my house and spent time with God and then spent time with myself. Honestly it is the most peaceful and rewarding time in my day. It kept me grounded and able to make time for myself, my thoughts, my feelings and my desires every day.
Lesson 5. Be the change you wish to see in the world
After the slaughter of George Floyd, I couldn’t do much because I was recovering and confined to my bed, but I was determined to find a way to push for change. Whether that was flooding timelines with information, donating money, making phone calls to state representatives, or addressing oppressive systems in my own world, something had to be done. I realized no matter what I did, if I wanted to see something different in my community then I needed to be a catalyst for change. So, if you want to see something different in your world, don’t be afraid to spark a fire (not literally though).
Lesson 4. Stay Your Course
It doesn’t matter what other people are doing, move at the pace that is best for you! Don’t allow the things and people you see on the gram to get you off course. Stay on the path God created for you!
Lesson 3. Heal
Whether it’s physical, mental, or emotional, healing is a part of the process! It’s often the part of the process that gets overlooked because we would rather forget the trauma and pain we are experiencing. But it doesn’t matter if you put it off for 2 weeks or 20 years, if you don’t heal from it, it will continue to consume you. Heal Sis, so you can regain your might and restore your power.
Lesson 2. Health is Wealth
I spent most of quarantine frustrated about my health. One day it was my breast, the next day it was my uterus and then it was the nerves in my mouth. With so much uncertainty I learned your health is not to be taken for granted. You are your best advocate and you as we get older we must continue to take care of ourselves in every way. Make sure you make your yearly appointments and Go to them. If something is unusual or feels weird take a day off from work and go get it checked out.
Lesson 1. He Always Provides
This whole pandemic I have not lacked. 2020 was proof that God will always provide.
I pray that you and your family have a healthy, successful and prosperous 2021. I am confident that this year is going to be life changing for all as long as we keep God first and constantly remember the lessons he taught us in 2020. I pray each and everyone of you has a Faithfilled 2021!!!!
Until Next Time
Faithphilly Yours,
Amanda Christine
