The Roadblock of Disobedience
Last week I was driving to work thinking about content. I kept coming to a roadblock mentally and then quickly realized I was in a roadblock physically. They were doing construction on the highway so 1 of the lanes was completely shut down. But there was a line of cars that were in a lane that were exiting the highway. So, even though I had no idea where the exit would take me I decided to take my chances and get off. I tried to get in the other lane but I couldn't move because I was boxed in. When I examined my position closely, I realized I was only blocked in because I pulled up too close to the car in front of me. I tried to reverse but couldn't maneuver my car without hitting anyone, so I just gave up and sat. As I was waiting for some movement, I realized I had caused the roadblock in my content as well; but it wasn't my physical position it was my position of disobedience.
After sitting for a while there was little movement and I was able to get unstuck. The traffic started moving but not enough for me so I quickly exited off the highway. It turns out I had NO idea where I was. I had to turn the GPS on. Do you know where the GPS took me? Right back on to the traffic packed highway because I couldn’t get to my destination with out crossing the bridge.
A few weeks prior, the Lord gave me revelation for new content ideas. I’m not gonna lie the revelation scared me. I enjoy writing and sharing the lessons God teaches me but I was not expecting the shift he told me to make. If I'm being honest, He gave me new revelation and I immediately started doubting what I heard. “You want me to what?” “Nah, that's just me…that ain't God” “I don't even have what it takes to talk about that stuff” and moretold me to meet with someone to discuss content ideas. After some consideration, I decided it would be better if I first figured things out on my own. I decided to sit with the idea for a little and create my own plan first. I thought I would be able to complete the task in my own way and that I didn't need to do it God's way. But unbeknownst to me, I only jammed myself up. The Bible tells us in Dueteronomy 5:33, that we must "Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you..." That means we must remain obedient to the Lord and all he commands us to do. It's not enough that we hear God. It's not even enough that we trust God. Instead we must take it one step further and do what he tells us to do in the way He instructs us.
Like when we tell our kids to clean their rooms and when we come into their room to inspect we see that they have just thrown eberm everthig uLike why? What's the point? Their disobedience has caused them to waste time, not to mention that they are going to have to listen and do the same tedious task over. The Bible tells us in 1 Samuel 15:22 that, "Obedience is better than sacrifice." When we create our own plan after getting God's, we are unknowingly telling God we instructions now better than Him. Therefore we become more susceptible to chaos, confusion and everything that comes along with that!
Do you know better than God?!?! Cuz I sure don't, even though I have had the audacity to think I did at times. But thank God for His mercy and His grace because even though we think so arrogantly of ourselves, He loves us and pushes us in the right direction anyway!
So in order for us to truly remain obedient to God's will, we must begin by humbling ourselves. In humbling ourselves, we acknowledge that He is our God and we are His people. That we are His sheep and He is our Shepard and He cares for each one of us. Through that revelation, we begin to trust God with every part of our lives. When we trust in Him, we submit to Him and listen to His instructions. Its not enough to just listen we must listen AND obey.
Obedience shows God that we trust in Him and that we have faith in Him and the promises He has made. Trusting God is an act of obedience. Listening and complying is an act of obedience. Surrendering to His will, His way is an act of obedience. Obeying God not only allows us to get the job done correctly, but it keeps us on track and allows us to complete the task in a timely manner.
There are many blessings when we decide to be obedient to God. Dueteronomy 5:33 goes on to say "...so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess." This means that through obedience we will experience long life, prosper and extend the days we have in the land we have dominion over.
When I realized I was stuck because of my disobedience, I asked God to forgive me and repented. I immediately reached out to set up a meeting with the person, and I even confessed my sin one to another. That pivot immediately allowed me to no longer feel blockage mentally and physically. The cars started mocing and i was able to maneuver freely to get in another lane. I was also able to repostion my thinking and freely create.
I dont know about you but in this season, we don't have time to be out of the will of our Father. Not just that we don't have the time, but more importantly I don't have the desire. So if you are conciously or unconciously being disobedient, take a moment to evaluate yourself, humble myself and reposition quickly in order to stay in line with His perfect ways.
Until Next Time my Faithphilled Friends,
Xoxo
